Too Late to Meet “My Brother”

My brother, Rev. Ugochukwu Obiora Adimora, your sister, Chinyere, has been my friend from the time we were teens, so I call you brother as she calls you and I call Akachi, Sister Theo, as Chinyere calls her. Please Brother, let me give respect to these great sisters by calling them some of their professional names, maka na odiro eazy-o. Professor Akachi Adimora Ezeigbo, I salute you, Head of English Department, and Aka-na-edeji-pen, Creative Writer Extraordinary. Professor Chinyere Adimora Okunna, I salute you, Commissioner, Dean of Social Sciences and Ada-Eji-Eje-Mba of Anambra State. These illustrious women never cease to attribute their achievements to family and background. Brother, I was looking forward to coming to Uga to see the origin of the “delicious” tales that include you and Mama whom I had the honor to know very well, and others. I will still make that trip, but you will not be there to give me the awesome welcome that you are known for. Selfless care giver of wherever need calls, I heard how you would prepare and get things in place whenever someone was coming home. Alas! Death has robbed us of your unconditional hospitality.

But death, “be no proud,”

For Pastor Adimora still lives,

Through his household legacy:

First Lady of Reverend Adimora,

Children and grandchildren – All,

Spreading the name of Adimora,

The loving patriarch of the line,

Whose legacy lives with the faithful,

That forever sing Jesus and Alleluia.

You, devoted servant of the Most High,

You, who worshipped God all your life,

Rest in peace. My brother. Till we meet.

To God be the Glory

Times like this when we morn our loved ones demand a sorber reflection on life. We ask many questions about life, we try to rationalize what should have been done to make things different. But we should all be consoled in the Lord Almighty that our late brother is now resting with his maker.

Life appears to offer so much but like the Psalmist says all is vanity. This is the road mankind must walk through. So we continue to live and remember the good memories our brother shared with us and be glad that we once had him with us. We further look up to seeing him again at the resurrection when we all meet to unite with the saints forever. This should continue to strengthen and give you all hope that you will still see him again. May his gentle soul continue to rest with God in Jesus name. Amen.

CALL UGOCHUKWU

CALL UGOCHUKWU

Exactly at this hour 8.46am on Monday 17 February 2020, exactly a week today, the news of the passing away of my precious Cousin Ugochukwu Adimora reached me, silencing me. Words are paying their homage by bowing to silence, by keeping silent in honour of him whose voice rises to be heard when being heard makes a difference

Precious Cousin Ugochukwu, "nwanne w? ihe etinyehe nnu ma ya anat? ?t?". You told me how much you LOVED that saying. You told me that we, the Adimoras, must keep maintaining and expanding the very special LOVE that was the bond our fathers shared and handed down to us, an extraordinary heritage, precious and awesome.

Precious Cousin, you played your part to the utmost to keep that family LOVE and unity blooming and flourishing, healing and building, lifting, honouring and beautifying. You were that to which no salt is added but made family relationship delicious. Yes, you, my precious Cousin Mr U, made our Adimora family relationship delicious!

Your willingness to help whenever called up is the legacy of you being the male Adimora of our generation who was resident in Uga. A responsibility you honourably carried with great joy and happiness. You were the home branch that will drive our family to the hospital at the dead of night. You were the home root that will be called upon and will check upon, that will visit and provide companionship. "Call Ugochukwu" and you will be called and will answer. Your charisma, smile, your voice. your LOVE, your presence, your stylishness, your cherished dance moves, have remained with me since the news of 17 February 2020, keeping me company and in silence I continue to pay homage until words visit to be written and spoken. Those who planted LOVE live on in the LOVE planted. Your face is before me as I write and as the LOVE you planted glows and lives on in me.

Precious Cousin Mr U, I am consoled that you knew your faith and that you were deep in faith. I am consoled that your faith knew that what we call death is only a door to a better place. I am consoled that you knew for sure that through the door of death, you will arrive the promised land. I am consoled that your prayers were answered for you have prayed that if this was to be your time, may excruciating pain not be prolonged. Tears will fall no doubt and continue to fall, but they fall to become the rain, watering the seeds of the LOVE you planted. We draw strength from the strength of our precious children Nnamdi, Adaugo, Chinyere and darling wife Ngo who remain strong in faith in honour of the faith you kept.

LOVE TO YOU ALWAYS precious cousin

LOVE TO ALL ALWAYS

THE PASSING OF A GENIAL GENTLEMAN

The demise of Pastor Ugochukwu Ezeigbo, has , indeed, cast a long shadow among his family , friends , flock and associates. Although I never met him in flesh and blood, I got snippets of his amiable and dependable disposition through his beloved sister and my dear friend, Professor Akachi Ezeigbo.

Salute to a great soldier of Christ

Dear Uncle Ugochukwu

I am at a loss for words; what do I say? If I say I was shocked to hear of your passing, that would be an understatement. I had only just heard you were ill and not long after my mum called me crying to say "Nwanne, my brother is dead". I have comforted her over and over again, reminding her that you are in a better place.

Yes, definitely and without a doubt, Uncle, I know you are in a better place. With the angels, beholding the face of Jesus. Free from all pain and worries, dancing, rejoicing and praising God with the other saints, cheering us on here on earth. It is these thoughts that console me when I remember you. When I feel, oh! I should have kept in touch more.

I remember that, about once every 2 months, you would call me and ask about my husband and children and gve me words of advice. So I will never hear that voice again? I remember when my mum was seriously ill and you called to find out what I was doing about it. I remember your continually reminding me that I am the "ada" and what was expected of me. That was you, Uncle. A Disciplinarian, but also caring.

Well, what I know is that "It is well". I thought I had no words, but as I started writing, the memories started flooding back. I have good memories of you Uncle, and truly speaking, I cannot remember any bad one. If there was anything I knew about you, it was your passion and dedication to the things of God and your love for family. There is no doubt that you will be missed by so many, including me. You meant so many different things to different people.

Aunty Ngozi, Nnamdi, Adaugo and Chinyere. It is well. Please take heart. God knows best.

And to you - Uncle. Keep enjoying yourself up there in heaven. When we are done with our own race, at a very old age, we will meet again, to part no more. In the meantime, we will cherish the memories we have of you, live the legacy you left behind and strive to be all you taught and encouraged us to be, and much more.

Love from your niece,

A Journey in Service

Tribute to Late Rev. Ugochukwu O. Adimora

Life well lived in the service of God is the best in a period of untoward dispositions as seen in our world of today. As a Rev Minister of God, it bespeaks of your divine and celestial connections. We're therefore, consoled that your demise is not a loss but a heavenly addition.

The staggering number and overwhelming outpour of tributes can only suggest one thing; a persona who not only lived to serve God but also humanity. That again is rare in this part of our world where man's inhumanity to man has become a norm. Your exit conjures a feeling of great loss to not only your immediate family but also to those you have touched in more ways than one.

On behalf of the family of Ben Eze ORJI, may I convey with utmost sincerity our deepest condolences to the larger Adimora family and, most importantly, to our dearest academic mentor and mother, Prof Akachi 'Dora Ezeigbo, whom, Late Rev Ugochukwu Adimora was more than just a brother.

We hope that, in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace of mind and solace in this time of sadness.

Adieu, dear Rev Obiora.

MY CONDOLENCES

RE: LATE REV. UGOCHUKWU OBIORA ADIMORA

I commiserate with you over the death of your beloved brother, Late Rev. Ugochukwu Obiora Adimora. His demise is not only a great loss to you and your family; it has also affected everyone who came in contact with him.

Death, though painful for the living, is the way all mortals would go. It is a fact that his death has created a big vacuum in the family, however, I urge you to take solace in the fact that he lived a worthy Christian life. The virtuous life he lived, his uncommon charisma, charity and steadfastness manifested in his ministry and peace and love in his relationships; are worthy to be proud of. I pray God Almighty in His infinite mercies to comfort you and your family in this moment of grief. Find solace in the fact that there is no sorrow heaven cannot heal. Finally, I implore you to uphold the legacies he left behind.

May his kind and gentle soul rest in peace; Amen!

SALUTES AND GOODBYES.

There's everything wrong with the fact that we have to write you a tribute this soon. A laborer has his reward. So we've been told. We believe you could have stayed on to reap the fruits of your sweat. But God knows what He's doing. We believe so too. A man enters the world with a cry, and leaves amidst tears. Yours was no different. Men are born to die. It's been a settled matter since the beginning of time.

Since our wishes of long live wasn't granted, we have a new wish. That you spend eternity in the bosom of the Father, who rewards all good deeds.

We bid you farewell sir. Continue to rest in the Lord. Till we meet at Chris's feet.

Dear Prof Akachi Adimora-Ezigbo,

I receive with shock the demise of your brother, late Rev Ugochukwu Obiora Adimora. It is painful to announce the death of a brother, more painful to face the reality that one isn't going to see a sibling again, probably, the very person one shares unforgettable childhood experiences with, but it takes much more pain of no mean intensity to bury the dead. May God in his infinite mercy give you the strength to bear these three losses in one fate swoop. And may the remains of Rev Ugochukwu find rest in God's kingdom. Amen.

TRIBUTE TO A DEAR FRIEND

Reverend Ugoo, so for real you're gone? This is one of the greatest devastated news that I've ever received in my entire life. We agreed on meeting each other before the uninvited deadly COVID-19 interrupted that appointment. Ewoo! Akpataoyi ezuo m aru ooo! A news that I assumed to be a dream has turned out to become a reality that can never be reversed! What a life of ashes and vanity that we daily foolishly boast of! Chai! Death indeed is unfair to mankind. This pain is so much for me to bear. Please can someone wake me up from this dream with a different news that this rare gem has come back to life? I can't forget your goodness in my existence in a hurry. You were too disciplined, selfless, kind-hearted and incorruptible to a fault. Since the very day that our paths crossed in Ekwulobia till you departed you've never shown yourself less trustworthy and caring even as a child that you were. You indeed, left behind admirable legacies worthy of emulation.

Though I am bereaved but I have this consolation that you're in a better place having surrendered totally to your creator even amidst plenty during your lifetime. Even unto death, you will forever be missed my dear one. In deepest sincerity I wish you nothing but eternal rest in the Lord till we meet to part no more????

THE PORTRAIT OF A WARLORD AND THE GRATEFUL BOW.

Memories don't wane or shrink, it resonates freshness as far as it counts.

Last November, was the last we talked, it was in a convention, he called my name "Joshua umoke" so loud , that I halted like a soldier in a parade , he talked and talked, he asked of my big brother and all. We parted ways, leaving that last moment unplanned.

On that February morning, I was far away in Delta, preparing for a semester exams, when my sister ( who happened to be closest to the family) called saying " Bro Adimorah anwua", I was bewildered , I shrugged, I refused to believe her yet I never did disagreed, I called "Ezinwanne' ( Rev ugo last girl) the last we spoke ,we talked about her it is our responsibility to take care of our parents in their old age, we agreed that the universe help us to do so,her phone rangbut I lost morale and hung the call, I called my mum instead and she confirmed the news.

Well, it is always a pleasure to write of a warlord, his trips and battleline, his strategy, survivals and retirement. Today I remember a man who meant a lot to me and my family, The Man who loved and cared, Who served and has retired.

A warlord whose portrait is hanging as a guideline for the younger generation, he knows what he believes and stood for it till that Grateful bow.

You didn't retreat or surrender, you were a gallant soldier.

Rest on Reverend Adimorah'.

Farewell immortality. Jee nke oma till that morning.

REV. UGO, YOUR FUTURE IS GREAT

Rev. Ugochukwu, you came and saw but chose to win with your maker and creator.

The hard question about life you sought answers to and found not in any man but your maker and creator.

A life of greatness many seek to achieve but you found it not in any other but your maker and creator.

Who can truly describe life outside the giver and creator?

The future of a man can only be great to the extent it is defined by the maker and creator.

I HAVE LOST MY BEST FRIEND

I met Ugochukwu Adimora in Enugu in 1974, while I was in Secondary School. I used to shop clothes from his shop in Edingburg Road. Our friendship was spontaneous. We liked each other from day one. Later, he moved out of Enugu and we lost contact. Providence would connect us again in far away Kano City. From that point we were together until he relocated back to Uga from Lagos. We lived together in Kano, Lagos and London. We did business together, wore the same clothes and loved the same kind of music. I make bold to say that I nick-names him Mr. U, which became his popular name.

It was a rude shock the day I saw Nnamdi's obituary post of Facebook. I guess it is true after all, that Mr. U is gone forever. I will forever cherish our friendship. He was a good man. Fun loving not easily offended.

Bye bye Bozo. Sleep well Mr. U. Ka chill foo Reverend.

Gosh! This really hurts. Life has never and will never be the same for me; never dad! You over loved me, cared for me, prayed for and with me, rebuked and admonished me. Where do i go from here, whom do I lay my complaints to, who do I run to in the middle of the night when it looks so gloomy, dark and scary, who will always call me to admonish me never to worry that all will be well, who, who, just tell me who?

You made life so easy for us, with you around, we never had to worry about anything. You were there for us through it all and for that we are grateful. You were one man I looked up to, that one man who represented God to me; it is safe for me to say that you were my god on the earth.

I have so many questions to ask you, so many things I need clarity on, I want to talk it over with you; I'm putting my acts right, so let's talk it over when it's all over. Until then keep resting.

I love you immensely, I miss you so much and i want to thank you for all ever did for me, am sincerely grateful.

Adieu, Papa! Adieu my pastor, friend and mentor!! Adieu, my father of yesteryears!!!

Forever immortalized, never to be forgotten!!!!

GOD GAVE ME THE BEST WHEN HE GAVE ME YOU.

A Letter To My Dad

Dear Dad,

It’s been a while since you departed this world to rest with your maker.

Most times, alone with my thoughts I wish you had stayed a little longer, so we could just set around and chat, smile, laugh and talk late into the night as was our custom.

You were a loving father, a kind man, generous, honest, courageous and fearless. You were one of a kind, a CHRISTIAN, a Preacher’s Preacher who showed exemplary leadership.

You knew your message and you preached it. You knew your place and filled it. You knew your business and attended to it. You were not too lazy to work nor too proud to be poor. You ate what you earned and wore only what you paid for. You were not ashamed to say “no” I can’t afford it. You had a vision and you lived it. In the end your life was fulfilling.

Your type is rare, hardly can find men like you these days.

The voyage has ended for you, I believe you landed safely on the shores of that great eternity where your maker with open arms have received you.

Rest on my Pastor, father and friend!!!

Your Son,

Nnamdi (Namo).

Now that the day is over, we give thanks to our Creator

In deep solemn and appreciation, we thank Thee Lord for our brother. For You are God from the begining to the end and there is no place for early bird or late ones because You are God Lord who give and take. Glory be to Thy Name for being God of all flesh.

TRIBUTE TO MY BELOVED BROTHER

TRIBUTE TO MY BELOVED BROTHER, REV. UGOCHUKWU ADIMORA

A tribute is all I can offer you now,

My brave and big-hearted brother,

The separation seemed unthinkable

I mourned and wept, crying to God,

“How can I face the heartbreak of not seeing my brother again?”

Then God sent an Angel that was my mother, Ukadinma Adimora,

Reminding me not to mourn like those without hope.

Ugons, as my siblings and I fondly called you,

You were ever ready to come to the rescue, to lend a hand.

I sing praises to a brother and Christian soldier extraordinaire

Who taught us about love, loyalty, unity and humility

Lee ka osi di mma bu mmeko nke umunne

Lee ka osi ma mma bu mbiko nke umunne

Obuna idi n’otu, lelelele, lee ka osi di mma

Bu mmeko nke umunne.

This song resonates because of you, your style,

You lived, worked, served and then left,

A heart of gold that cheered all around you

You were our hands and feet: everything,

Always ready to go the extra mile for us,

Like the Master, you went about doing good,

Carrying other people’s burdens as if they were yours.

Beloved, you left first, but we’ll meet again

In that lovely place where the saints meet;

We’ll gather at the beautiful shimmering river

That flows majestically by the throne of God,

There’ll be no death, no sorrow and no sickness.

Goodbye for now, my dearest brother

We’ll meet again to part no more.

TO A BROTHER AND HERO OF THE FAITH

Dearest Brother and Friend,

As we brood over your departure, we are compelled to reflect on the life you lived amongst us. From our childhood days, under mom and dad’s tutelage, through teenage and adult years, you were unique in your ways. You flew over many waters in the flamboyance of youth and with the strength of a unicorn. The friendship you arrayed gave you access to many.

We remember those caring moments, both to the young and the old, your burden for the family, your kindness and strength in times of adversity, your characteristic admonisions buttressed in love.

As a younger brother, I admired your hard-work, sacrifice and labour of love. You were defined at heart, resolute in business and your faith in God never wavered. You were decisive in whatever you set your mind to do and your courage gave strength to many.

From when you hit that true jackpot of life and found your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life, you never looked back. You devoted the rest of your life to God’s service and the course of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You answered the call and served God’s purpose.

Although your departure was our least expectation at this time, we rest our faith in the Eternal One Who has welcomed you home.

For your humility, brotherly love and care, we honor you. For all the sacrifice to family, friends and the church, we honor you. We honor your stand for what is just and right. We honor your service to God, humanity and the legacy you left behind.

We will miss you very much.

Farewell and see you on that soon-coming resurrection morning.

Farewell

To The Adimora Family:
Words are never enough to express and fill the void you are going through. Though not living in Nigeria, I had few encounters with him, yet I heard of his kindness and generosity. I pray that God will continue to give you all courage to accept this immense loss, and that his gentle soul may Rest in The Lord's Peace, forever. Amen.

CONDOLENCES FROM COLLEAGUES

Dear Prof. Akachi Adimora-Ezigbo,

We your colleagues at the Department of English and Literary Studies, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu- Alike, are indeed sharing in the pain of your loss of a beloved brother, Late Rev. Ugochukwu Obiora Adimora. We know how painful the loss of a loved one can be. Do accept our heartfelt condolences.

Earthly life is transient, and thus does not allow us eternal relationship we would have wished with friends and family. But the Almighty has promised believers in Christ Jesus a reunion with saved and justified relatives at the resurrection of the dead. After this reunion, there will begin a season of unbroken fellowship of loved ones eternally. We believe you will see your brother again. Once again, accept our condolences.

In Support of Prof Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo and the entire Extended Family

Growing up my family residing at Nanka at the time were friends with the Adimora family residing at Uga. No words can express in these challenging times my family's sadness at your beloved brother's passing. I can't imagine what you are all going through as you prepare for his funeral and his laying to rest. No matter how you look at it, the death of a brother you grew up with, and shared childhood memories and lifelong dreams with is a great loss. May you find comfort in knowing that he is now in a better place in the bosom of the Lord God Almighty that he devoted his life on earth serving as spiritual guide to the needy. He will always be remembered. May the soul of Rev. Ugochukwu Obiora Adimora rest in perfect peace! Amen!

A good man who fought the good fight

Dear Professor Akachi and Professor Stella Okunna

I commiserate with you and your entire family on the death of your dear brother. Though as mortal we feel the pain and vaccum but I am convinced that he has gone to rest with the Lord. Rev. Ugochukwu lived a good, peaceful and serviceable life. Testimonies about him showed truly he was a child of God. The bible says a good name is better than fine perfume and we are remembered by our works. The good legacies he left on earth will forever be written on the sands of time.

Je ije gi nke oma Rev. Ugochukwu. You have fought the good fight and you have finished the race. May God grant you a place in his kingdom.

Continue to rest in the bosom of the Almighty God.
